“Peter and the Wolf” is a symphonic story of Sergei Prokofiev masterfully intepreted by Kammart Barcelona and the puppet company Per Poc Puppets. In “Peter and the Wolf”, each character is represented by an instrument and a characteristic melody. At the beginning of the show, an actor introduces the characters and the instrument that will represent each one of them. During the story, the puppets illustrate the actions narrated by the actor and describe the music.
Per Poc Puppets was founded in 1989 as a puppet theater company with the desire to create shows for the whole family. Kammart Barcelona consists of some of the best musicians of Spain with the intention to provide the public with interpretations of chamber repertoire with an extraordinary level of musical quality and artistic sensibility. Alex Sansó is the principal conductor and artistic director of the ensemble.
Per Poc Puppets has performed “Peter and the Wolf” in collaboration with renowned orchestras and at famous venues, highlighting the performances at the Great Hall of the Vienna Konzerthaus, where never before were puppets had appeared; at the Children’s Musical Theater of Moscow, where Prokofiev premiered the work; at the International Music Festival Castell de Peralada; at the Autumn Festival Las Palmas with the Symphonic Orchestra of Las Palmas, with the Real Filarmonía de Galicia, the Wiener Kammerphilharmonie, etc.
Sergei Prokofiev composed the music of Peter and the Wolf in 1936 commissioned by the Children’s Musical Theater in Moscow, and premiered it a few months later under the baton of the composer himself.
Prokofiev wanted to teach children to distinguish the musical instruments of the orchestra. The characters are as follows:

Wolf – trumpets
Peter – strings
Hunters – percussion
